The Beauty Five #1: Brushes I can't live without

Today I'm starting this new thing in my blog called 'The Beauty Five' where I'll be talking/reviewing five things, it can be similar products, five products from the same brand or just five random things I like... you get the idea. I thought this could be a better way to talk about many products without having to review each one of them in different posts or having to write way too much.

And I wanted to start these series with my five favorite make up brushes, the ones I use every single day and that I will be using until they day they break, and possibly repurchase.

I'll start off by talking about the Real Tecniques brushes, everybody knows them. Made with extremely soft synthetic hair, a very modern design and great quality, these brushes are a great deal for everybody. When I started studying to be a Makeup Artist I was told that I'll need to invest in high quality brushes and now I honestly think that some of the Real Technique brushes are way better than other more expensive options, specially all the Face brushes such as the Powder Brush, Blush Brush, and Expert Face Brush. I own the eyes set too but I don't think they are amazing.

The Blush Brush is my favorite, it has an oval shape and it feels so soft and gentle on the cheeks. I also use it to apply bronzer but if your face is too tiny you may wanna pass that.
The Powder Brush is absolutely huge, very fluffy and I personally think it's way softer than Mac 150 (powder brush).
My current favorite foundation brush is the Expert Face Brush. It has short bristles and looks thicker and tighter than the others. When I got it I was like.. gosh, this is so small! And now I'm glad it is, it gets in all the small areas leaving a flawless finish.
Another brush I love is the Deluxe Crease Brush, this one comes in the Eyes Starter Set. However, it doesn't work well on my eyes, it's too thick and big to blend my eyeshadow properly. For that reason I think it's excellent as a concealer brush, specially when I use heavy concealers like the Mac Studio Finish Concealer or the Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage. I'd say this is a mini size the Expert Face Brush.
Last but not least it's my Mac 217, the best brush I've ever known. It does all the job, literally changed the way I do make up. Works great with powder eyeshadow, cream eyeshadow, concealer, blends beautifully. Simply perfect.

Do you own any of these brushes? If you could have only one brush for the rest of your life which one would it be?
Btw, I have a new twitter, it's @HolaFloBlog, follow me ;)

MAC Cranberry and life update

Sometimes it's not possible to be a good blogger. I think of blogging all the time but I just can't seem to sit down and write a bit. I've been working for three weeks non stop, kind of sure I didn't have a single day off but I can't complain cause things are going very well.
I recently started to work in a theatre on the weekends as part of the make up artists staff for a new play (and the premiere is tonight!). Everything is so new and fresh, we are not sure how it's gonna turn out but I really like it, the people is so nice that I don't even mind waking up at 8 am on Sundays and not getting paid for it.
I've also just got a new job that starts on October and I'm quite excited about it, sadly it's not beauty related but I get to speak English all day and the pay is good. It's just for a few months but suits me perfect as I will soon move to Sweden and need to save lots of money.
And besides all that, I've been working on my own doing peoples make up a lot lately, usually after my main job... meaning I get home after 21hs.
I'm very very tired but I feel that my life is starting to make sense... I know that can sound a bit dramatic but this year wasn't my year and things are getting better now. Maybe nobody cares of what I'm writing now and I should go straight to the review but well, I wanted to explain a bit why I haven't been blogging often :)

Working in the theathre is awesome and we get to play with a lot of colors and textures. I pretty much wear neutral eyeshadows all the time so I felt like doing something different now that I'm inspired.
I took my mom's MAC Cranberry eyeshadow the other day 'cause I thought I could needed it for a work.
MAC Cranberry is a dark berry red with a frost finish, very pigmented and absolutely perfect for fall/winter time. There are so many ways to use it but I opted to do a smokey eye with some black eyeshadow. I usually blend everything when I get close to the brow bone but this time I didn't, I wanted a very dramatic finish and so I also added some dark plum lipstick.

Also wearing:

Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation in Bamboo Beige / Inglot Cream Concealer in Peach / Mac Studio Finish Concealer in NW 20 / Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage in SC-3 / The Balm Mary Lou-Manizer Highlighter / MUA Mosaic Brozer #1 Natural Glow / Inglot Brow Powder in #560 / Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette in Crave, Venus and WOS / Jordana Best Lash Extreme Mascara in Black / Mac Rebel Lipstick

I hope you guys like this look, let me know if you would like to see more reviews/posts like this and sorry for so much rambling!

Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation in Bamboo Beige / Inglot Cream Concealer in Peach / Mac Studio Finish Concealer in NW 20 / Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage in SC-3 / The Balm Mary Lou-Manizer Highlighter / MUA Mosaic Brozer #1 Natural Glow / Inglot Brow Powder in #560 / Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette in Crave, Venus and WOS / Jordana Best Lash Extreme Mascara in Black / Mac Rebel Lipstick

A great deal | Jordana Best Lash Extreme Volumizing Mascara

When my parents made me they forgot to add the lashes. Almond oild, argan oil... you name it, I tried it.
Nothing really helped expect using a good eyelash curler which I do every time I wear mascara.
So yeah, I'm a bit of mascara freak, I normally don't dare to go out and pick the first mascara I see just because it claims to be the best, I will probably google a million reviews before getting a new mascara.

When I knew I was going to the USA, I asked my friend Yessie to tell me some drugstore must haves and she mentioned the Covergirl Lash Blast mascara and this Jordana Best Lash Extreme Volumizing Mascara as well. I found the Covergirl one at Walgreens and it was love at first sight, I didn't bother to try anything else because I had already bought some back ups.

However, a few months later the lovely Yessie sent me a package with lots of goodies and two of these Jordana mascaras she told me about!! I was so excited to try everything and very glad to get two new mascaras cause my Covergirl ones were almost empty.
I tried this mascara the next day and I was actually quite impressed, the formula is great: not too dry, not too wet, just perfect to make my lashes stay up without getting clumpy or go straight again.
The wand is okay, I prefer bigger ones like the one from Covergirl Lash Blash that allows me to comb the lashes pretty well. I'm sure that if this mascara would have another wand I would be able to give my lashes another coat without getting clumps.

The price? Crazy, $2.99! So incredibly cheap for what it is.. I really like how this mascara works on my short, thin eyelashes and I cannot imagine how amazing it would look on thick and long ones!

What do you think? Have you tried this mascara?
Flo x

Ps: Thank you Yessie for sending me all these stuff, I can't wait to move to Sweden to send you a package full of Swedish goodies! Unfortunately there is nothing beauty-related really awesome that I can send you from Buenos Aires :(

Disappointing Products #2

Hi there, It's been a while! I've been a little busy and couldn't find any time to blog, but I'm back now :)
Lately I've been thinking about doing this kind of tag where I show the products I'm not really happy about but it was such a hard task for me because I always always read reviews before I buy anything just to avoid being disappointed later.
For a few days I started using again those products that I never use, just to check why they have been left behind and well, now I remember why I don't use them any longer;

Hola hola!

Wet n Wild H20 Proof Liquid Liner: I don't like waterproof products but I got this one only to be worn during summer time, when my eyelids get very oily and I might be swimming someday.
It's not hard to apply and it's got a nice opaque finish, the problem is that it's impossible to remove it. Just to let you guys know, the first picture shows how it looks on my hand, on the second picture I washed my hands with warm water and soap, third picture I've used Maybellines Eye Makeup Remover and in the fourth picture you can see my hand after a shower where I had to use a body scrub to remove the liquid liner, you can also see that my hand is slightly irritated after so much scrubbing and it still didn't entirely dissapear. I think it's quite obvious why I cannot use this on my eyes. I was looking for a waterproof eyeliner not a scrub-proof one!

Wet n Wild Cool as Cucumber: Not much to say about why I'm not happy with it, the pigmentation is such a shame! I really wanted to like this eyeshadow trio as much as I like all Wet n Wild eyeshadow palettes.

I have mixed feelings about Lush Sweetie Pie Shower Jelly. The smell is absolutely delicious and makes me wanna eat my own hands but.. I find the jelly extremely annoying to work with, it's slips alway and I end up dropping it all the time.

Raro.

As previously mentioned, I'm not into waterproof products at all, but I was needing one waterproof mascara  for special moments and I got this Avon SuperShock Max Waterproof Mascara on beauty box. It has a big fat brush that separates the lashes very well but what I don't like is the formula; dries very quickly, makes my lashes get clumpy and even if I use eyelash curler my eyelashes can't seem to stay up one I wear this mascara.

While looking for some alternative to my Revlon Colorstay foundation for oily skin, a saleswoman recommended the Revlon New Complexion Oil Control Makeup foundation as it feels a lot lighter than the Colorstay one but still has a full coverage and also controls the oils very well. That was pure bullshit, I've used this foundation for over a month and it not only broke me out, but also doesn't seem to set on my skin, therefore I cannot explain how oily my skin looked like. It has a medium coverage and since I can't seem to make it set on my skin I couldn't get a full coverage.

Another foundation I don't like is Maybelline Fit Me, a very popular one. There are many people who love this foundation but I don't think it's a good one for acne prone skin, it broke me out and doesn't have a good lasting power.

Last but not least, the L'oreal True Match Concealer... I really wanted to like this one but I'm not very happy with the formula; to be a liquid concealer I find it quite drying. Another thing is tthere are only two shades in Argentina. I have the Fair-Light Warm W1-2-3 which I thought it would match my True Match foundation in W3 but it didn't.. it's way too light and the next shade is way too dark.

So these are the products I'm not really happy about... Tell me about yours!
Flo x

Besos, Flo x
